I WAS hoping to warn your readers of an e-mail scam. I was sent an e-mail informing me that I was entitled to a tax refund of £84.75, a believable sum.

The e-mail was addressed fromHMRevenue & Customs and had what appeared to be all the correct logos and contact details for a government department.

It even had a link halfway through that took me directly to what again was an exact match to theHMRevenue & Customs website.

Fortunately, I could not find my bank card at the time and so had to delay filling in the online refund form. In the meantime a colleague warned me it may be a scam and encouraged me to ringHMRevenue & Customs to check.

TheHMRevenues & Customs operator informed me that they never contact people via e-mails with regards to tax rebates or refunds and that I was to report the e-mail straightaway as it was an online phishing scam whereby cybercriminals gain access to your bank details and use and abuse your bank account and any funds you may have in it.

So, if you get sent an e-mail like this ignore it and report it because it a scam.
