ENZO Calzaghe will tonight premiere his new film Stitched Up for 100 guests at his Abercarn gym.

Mr Calzaghe wrote the gangster film with brother Uccio and he has spent £25,000 filming it over the last 18 months in Gwent and his native Sardinia.

He plays a boxing trainer who arranges for his fighter to knock an opponent out in round six of a fight as part of a betting scam. However, when the other fighter instead knocks Mr Calzaghe’s boxer out, it is about the revenge that is sought.

Mr Calzaghe said it is "powerfully scripted, with very strong language and good acting", focusing on the character of wayward boxer Tommy Vito who is more into prostitutes than boxing.

As well as Mr Calzaghe, his former world champion son Joe also plays a cameo, alongside fellow boxer Enzo Maccarinelli and former pop star Kerry Katona.

In a real family affair, Mr Calzaghe’s two brothers Uccio and Sergio also play boxing trainers while his dad Guiseppe appears.

Of the decision to make the film, he said: "I’ve been a magician, a musician, a boxing trainer. I just love life and want to fulfil every ambition and live every minute. It’s easy to say ‘I’ll do it tomorrow’, I’ll do it today."

He said he just wants a positive reaction from his guests about the film and if it goes down well he may look at making another one, with aspiring actor son Joe a possible lead character.

Mr Calzaghe thanked everyone who helped him make the film, which is dedicated to parents Guiseppe and Vittoria.
