A POLICE investigation is under way into the force’s contact with a teenage boy from Tredegar who died in hospital after being found unconscious on Wednesday afternoon, officers said yesterday.
A spokeswoman said: “Police were called to a location close to Elmwood Grove, Tredegar, at approximately 4.20pm on Wednesday, August 15.
“Officers attended and found a 15-year-old boy unconscious. The boy was taken to Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, where he later died. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
“As this was a death following police contact, it was referred the IPCC. After review, the IPCC has now handed this back to Gwent Police for local investigation.”
No further details about the nature of the police contact were released yesterday.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “We were called to an address in Tredegar at 4.33pm on Wednesday.
“A male patient was taken to Prince Charles Hospital.”
