A TEENAGE dancer from Devauden saw off stiff competition to secure her place on stage for one of the world’s most famous classical ballet.
Alys Davies was selected from more than 300 hopefuls to perform Swan Lake with the English Youth Ballet.
The 15-year-old has just over a month to perfect her routines until the three shows at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre from September 21 to 22.
The Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls pupil, who trains with the Aimee Harbourne Three Counties School of Dance, is set to go on a ten-day intensive programme of rehearsals in the run-up to the production.
Together with other aspiring dancers, she will experience the life of a professional, putting her on the right path to a possible future career.
“I’m looking forward to learning my part in Swan Lake – I am dancing the parts of a nursemaid and a Hungarian dancer,” she said.
The teenager, who only began ballet dancing three years ago, hopes to become a professional dancer or teacher.
The production will see EYB principal dancer Oli Speers Oxley fly in from Toulouse to play the role of Prince Sergei, while Julianne Rice, who has danced with the English National Ballet, takes the leading role of the White Swan.
