TWO Gwent police officers are among the first to sign up for this year’s Great Gwent Poppy Run.
Police Sergeant Angela Jones, of Bettws Police Station and Ceri Crewe, who is an intelligence development officer in Pontypool, have teamed up to train for the seven-mile circular route of Cwmcarn Scenic Drive, which takes place on November 4.
Sgt Jones was inspired to to take part by her husband, county Poppy Appeal Coordinator Mike Jones, and their 11-year-old son Morgan who raised more than £600 after completing last year’s race.
She will be joined by mother- of-two Mrs Crewe who is keen to raise as much money as possible to support the welfare work of the Royal British Legion.
Last year’s event, supported by BAE Systems, Glascoed, who have developed a close relationship with the armed forces, attracted 108 runners and organisers hope to get 200 people involved this year.
Entry is £10 in advance or £25 on the day and runners will receive a Great Gwent Poppy Run T- shirt and pack with advice on raising sponsorship.
Register by e-mailing greatgwentpoppyrun@ britishlegion.org.uk, or by calling Mr Jones on 07875 089933.
