Cwmbran Fish and Chip shop could be Wales’ best

A FISH and Chip shop based in Cwmbran is in the race to be crowned Regional Independent Takeaway of the Year at the 25th National Fish and Chip Awards 2013.

Page’s Fish and Chips in Cwmbran is one of five Fish and Chip shops in Wales shortlisted for the award which has been organised by Seafish.

The five shops will now go on to compete against 45 others from across the UK to earn a place in the award ceremony at the Lancaster Hotel in London on January, 24, next year.

Page’s manager Jen Davies said: "We are absolutely delighted.

"Page’s is a long-standing family-run business, and it’s just brilliant that we have become so successful."

Over the next few months the businesses will be put to the test in a round of mystery judging by the Seafish panel.

Shops will be secretly rated on a number of factors including food quality and customer service in order to progress to the next round of the competition.

One winner from the five shortlisted in Wales will be chosen in October to compete for the overall UK title in January 2013.

As far as I'm concerned and I'm sure many will agree with me - there are only two chippys in Wales worthy of this title and they are of course Page's (which has been a family favourite since before I can remember) and Beales in Porthcawl. All these negative comments are through pure jealously either by other chip shops in the area or maybe just some narrow minded individuals who hate to see anyone succeed. I for one wish Page’s all the best in this competition and think they will go far, they should win for Wales easily as like I’ve said me and my family have been going to Page’s since before I can remember and the new restaurant/take away in Cwmbran is just as nice - excellent food, service and big portions. See you guys in Cwmbran on Thursday!!

Haven't tried Page's yet, but I can certainly recommend the chippy in Gilwern, Codfather in Abergavenny, Weeks in Chepstow, Blue Oyster in Cardiff Road, Newport, and C.& M in Malpas Road, Newport.
Take it from me, I've done my research!.

There's only 1 very nice fish shop in Cwmbran and that's in pontnewydd. Not sure the best in Wales/uk but have a poll in town on regular residents, bets are most will back me up.

Went to Page's in Cwmbran, chips were nice, fish was the biggest one I have ever been served, staff were friendly and pleasant.

As you say, it's down to experience and that was ours. By the way, I don't own a chippy, work in one or visit them very often.

Kevin Ward - I would like you to justify your reasons for removing my comments; I did not make any insults, call anyone names nor did I make any allegations or accusations about the business or it's employees. I simply provided an unbiased point of view, which is that the service in their chip shops has always been (in my experiences) terrible, with the staff coming across as arrogant and downright rude. That is my personal opinion and I honestly believe it will let them down when they get judged by a secret shopper for this competition. Several others before me had also made similar comments, and several others after me also agreed. Are you saying that for a comment to remain on this site it must fully endorse the news article? As surely saying things such as "Great food and great service" could be technically classed as an allegation; but as it is considered positive I notice it has remained on the comments.
My retorts to some of the other members who commented after me could possibly have been misconstrued as insulting, however I remain confident that my original post fell into your terms and conditions quite nicely.
Please do explain!
