Records show more rain fell in Gwent in first two weeks of August than whole month last year

No surprises as more rain forecast today
IT MAY come as little surprise, but Gwent experienced more rain in the first two weeks of August than it did for the whole of the same month last year.
Figures from the Met Office show that the region saw 63.5mm of rain in the first two weeks of the month.
It compared to 56mm in August last year, and was at least three quarters of the average rainfall of between 84.9-85mm.
Towns across Gwent are forecast a break from the rain today, with highs of 19 degrees expected in Newport and Abergavenny.
Ebbw Vale and Tredegar are forecast to have a temperature of 16 degrees with sunny intervals.
The M4 westbound between the Coldra and junction 25 for Caerleon suffered flooding during afternoon yesterdayleading to two lanes being shut.
It also emerged that a bolt of lightning struck the ground at Forest Close, Cwmbran last on Saturday. Around ten homes had their power and phones knocked out as a result.
