FOOD and drink lovers can book their place at the dinner table for the opening of Newport's second annual Food Festival.

Tickets are now on sale for the banquet at The Riverfront on October 5 - the eve of the festival opening.

Last year's inaugural supper was a sell-out success and the council has already received enquiries about this year's meal.

The Waterloo Hotel and Bistro, based in Pill, and The White Hart Village Inn, of Caerleon will make the starters and main courses, while Vittorios will dish up some their mouth-watering desserts.

Councillor Debbie Wilcox, cabinet member for leisure and culture, said the dinner would be a "fabulous entree" to this year's festival and urged people to book their place.

She said: "All three restaurants are renowned for the quality of their food so we can look forward to a fantastic evening of fine dining and entertainment."

Newport Food Festival is back by popular demand after thousands of people flocked to the city last year, boosting trade for many shopkeepers and market stallholders.

This year's event is on Saturday October 6 boasts a host of chef demonstrations and masterclasses, like those led by top cooks including James Sommerin, who is executive chef of the Michelin starred Crown at Whitebrook, last year.

There will be stalls offering food to buy and taste, entertainment and the final of the Teen Chef competition for youngsters.

Events and activities will be taking place indoors and outside in various venues in the city centre.

Tickets for the supper cost £30.50 for three courses and includes a welcome drink.
