THOUSANDS of people are expected to flock to events and shows across Gwent over the last weekend of summer.

A zip wire event to raise money for mountain rescue and lifeboat team SARA will go ahead on Saturday and Sunday at the National Dive Centre, Chepstow.

Headline acts include rapper Chipmunk at the Breakin' Out Festival in Abergavenny on Saturday, taking place at Abergavenny Leisure Centre, Old Hereford Road. Visit www.breakinoutfestival.com for ticket details.

Volunteers have worked around the clock to help dry the Showground for the Usk Show, in Gwernesney, taking place on Saturday from 9am.

Tickets are £10 for adults, £7 for OAPs and £3 for children aged five to 15.

The Dragon Boat Race will happen this Sunday starting at Monmouth Rowing Club.

Entry costs £25 for teams of 10 to 14 paddlers plus one drummer, and your team must raise £500 sponsorship money.

If you happen to be at Belle Vue Park in Newport, Bedwellty Park in Tredegar or Waunfawr Park in Cross Keys this Sunday, you'll witness the Bandstand Marathon from 1pm.

While at Belle Vue Park, drop in to the Community Festival on Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm.

The Fourteen Locks Heritage Weekend at the Canal Centre in Rogerstone will feature walks starting at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 2pm on Saturday, and boat and steam train rides on Sunday.

The 22nd Greenmeadow Show takes place at Greenmeadow Community Farm, Cwmbran on Sunday from 10am to 6pm.

Events include falconry and animal agility, and entry is half price on the day.
