A woman who lost her mum and brother within a week of each other is appealing for help as she faces a bill of almost £6,000 for their burials.
Jade Chadwick, 30, of Rudry Street, was left devastated when she found the body of her brother Jamie Chadwick, 27, on August 27 but then had to go through further tragedy when her mum Tina
Chadwick, 52, lost her battle with lung cancer on September 3.
But now, Miss Chadwick needs to find a minimum of £1,850 to pay a deposit for the funerals of her beloved family members but said she will have to fork out in excess of £4,000 to pay for further
costs including the funeral service.
Her brother died at his home at Gaer Road on August 26 after taking mixing prescription drugs and alcohol, Mrs Chadwick said.
Her mum died at St Anne’s Hospice after a five-year battle with lung cancer.
Miss Chadwick said she hopes to be able to bury her mum and brother on September 17 at St Woolos cemetery alongside her brother Michael Chadwick, who died aged 21 back in 1998 after accidentally
mixing prescription drugs with alcohol.
She has booked the funeral with undertaker Tovey Brothers at St John’s Church, Maindee, on September 17 at 2pm, but needs to find the deposit before the funeral.
Miss Chadwick said she is able to receive a social funds funeral payment from the benefits agency of £700 but this will only be made available after the funeral has taken place.
Her mum did have some savings but Miss Chadwick is waiting for legal matters to be sorted so she can access this.
Miss Chadwick and her friends have now started to sell possessions, including her mum’s television and Xbox, to try and raise money and have so far raised around £400.
Staff at Glen’s Florist, Nash Road, have also agreed to provide the flowers at a cheaper price.
Miss Chadwick said: "I just haven’t had time to grieve at the moment. I’m just trying to get any help I can."
