A LANDSLIP which caused chaos in a Gwent village could end up costing a local authority hundreds of thousands of pounds to repair.
The A467 between Warm Turn roundabout and Glandwr Industrial Estate, Aberbeeg, has been blocked since Monday morning, when the steel gabion baskets that hold up the side of the road, gave way.
But the fear is that the gabion baskets along the 1.5 mile stretch of road from Crumlin to warm turn roundabout will all need replacing by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
Councillor Keith Lloyd explained that the baskets have been there since the road was built in the early 1980s and have been deteriorating for a number of years In November last year, the gabion baskets that support the river bank in Aberbeeg, behind Aberbeeg Social Club and further along the river, also gave way.
Repair work to that small section of approximately 100 yards cost the council £70,000 to replace.
But Councillor Lloyd fears to repair the section of road which is being blocked at the moment, could increase the cost substantially.
