COUNCILLORS voted to turn down plans for a new caravan park in Chepstow on a “notorious stretch of road” which has claimed the lives of at least three people.
Councillor David Dovey said changing the use of a field at Tredegar Farm, Devauden, to a touring caravan park would be a “recipe for disaster,” as access would be off the B3245 which is popular with bikers.
Ian Moore, of Shirenewton Community Council, said they used it as “almost a racetrack,”
and there had been three or four fatalities in the last few years.
Cllr Roger Harris voted in favour of the plans for up to 30 caravans, which were recommended for approval by planning officers because of potential tourism and economic benefits. However, the plans were not given the green light and were refused.
