A WOMAN started training for a half marathon just seven weeks after giving birth to her daughter.

Eleanor James, 29, of Llanyrafon, is preparing to run a half marathon in aid of her mother who suffers from an immune system illness.

Mrs James will take on the Cardiff half marathon next month in aid of Lupus UK because her mother Linda McGuire, 55, also of Llanyrafon, has suffered from the condition for the past 30 years.

The condition affects Mrs McGuire’s organs and causes inflammation of the joints meaning she finds it difficult to move. She also occasionally suffers from rashes on her face and back and is on constant medication including taking steroids daily to help her with her movement.

Inspired by her mother, Mrs James decided she would take on the challenge and started training after giving birth to her second child Isabel, now 10 months.

Mrs James, who also has a five-year-old son Jack, said: "Lupus has caused my mum and our family so much suffering over the years. I’d be lost without her and I was determined to run the half marathon for this worthy cause."
