A MOTHER who left the Royal Gwent Hospital with her newborn baby is still missing this morning, police say.

A spokesman for Gwent Police said the force is still searching for them. The woman, 19, had left the Royal Gwent Hospital on Thursday hours after giving birth in the morning.

She took her newborn baby at 4.30pm.

Gwent Police launched a missing person inquiry for the mum and baby as they were concerned for the mother's well-being.

Police are hunting for a vulnerable mother who went missing with her newborn child.

The woman, 19, left Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, against doctors' advice just hours after giving birth.

She took her newborn baby from the maternity unit with her at 4.30pm.

Gwent Police launched a missing person inquiry for the mum and baby as they were concerned for the mother's well-being.

She had only given birth in the early hours of this morning.

Buildings, grounds and car parks of the hospital on Cardiff Road were being searched in the hunt for the missing woman and her infant.

so, has she been threatened by social services?
have they threatened to kidnap her baby and put it up for adoption?
all the cases i know of where police are "hunting" for a young mum is where she is trying to avoid having her baby snatched and put in an abusive care system before being adopted.

I have to say it is reported in a very sensationalist way. I'm not sure if the word 'hunted' is really appropriate or the picture of police tape by the car park as if a crime sign is being portrayed. Also, it may be better to put a telephone number other than crimestoppers because taking your child from hospital is not actually a crime. If this vulnerable woman reads your article she will probably fear being arrested rather than helped.

Not everyone in the care system has an abusive childhood,I was a foster carer for many years and the children in my care were treated as part of the family,many are now grown up and have children of their own but still keep in touch.
I hope this girl and her baby are found soon,whatever the reason for her to go missing.

she was probably fed up of waiting 2 be discharged, they take the mick in there, i understand it is a very busy hospital but sometimes us new mums just wanna take our babies home, i do hope they r both ok though.

At 19, how do they know she is vulnerable??? Or have they just assumed, and involved social services??? The social services say they keep families together, but my experience with them was far from feeling helped!!! My son has lived with my sister for years, at 18 he does not know how to use money, poor personal hygiene, and scruffy clothes. But according to them he was better off!!! He now hates me, because of lies he's been told of how they got him, having asperger's stops him knowing fact from fiction. I hope they are both ok.

Why do people always like to think the worst of Social Services????! They perform a thankless job, under enormous stress & all people can come up with are biggoted comments like ''against forced adoption.'' As for ''Kestra99'' please stop surmising the worst of S.S., and accept that you don't know the background. By all means be concerned for this lady & her baby's safety, but don't even begin to think you know the half of what goes on behind the scenes of either S.S. or the hospital staff. I DO, so lets leave it at that!

I hope this girl and her child are found safe and well. Some of the comments on here are so wide of the mark. If some of these parents looked at themselves first instead of blaming others, perhaps their circumstance would be different. "kestra99" is a perfect example! Not their fault but "lies". Bet my house that if you spoke to their son and other family they would paint a different picture.

i agree none of us know why, but social serives are currupt & liars and i totally agree with kestra no one can tell me any different i was in the care system frm 10 days old & is so right in what they say its not about speaking 2 your families as i dint know mine til i was 24 but requested when i was 14 that i wanted 2 know who they was & afta meeting my sister she told me she told social workers she wanted 2 & its about what is put on the records which u cant read till your 18 & by that time the social worker who wrote it is no longer around which is aload of crap
