Usk man, once homeless on Texas streets, turns guitar teacher

A MAN who was once homeless on the streets of Texas is now helping unemployed people by harnessing his love for music.

Usk man Kevin Webb is running a number of workshops through developing his business All About Guitars.

In his ’20s, the 47-year-old mixed with the wrong crowd, which led to him losing his flat and his job, after an initial move there when his mother married an American.

After spending nights in his car, he spent the next three months at a huge warehouse that stocked grain, where he practised with his “blues and rhythm and rock” band, as the warehouse was owned by one of the members’ dads.

Then he was found a painting job.

He said: “I had a real struggle and someone gave me a helping hand. It was these people who believed in me and I thought I could do the same.”

He came back to the UK and earned a degree in design and technology, then taught in several jobs before retraining in IT and working at Caldicot School for four years.

He was assistant head teacher at a school in Bromyard, and worked at Monmouth Comprehensive.

In 2010, he accepted voluntary redundancy, which was when he decided to focus his love of music and helping others.

He received a £5,000 grant from Awards for All and set up workshops at the Life Music Foundation, where people learn to fix guitars.

Details about the sessions can be found at allaboutguitars.co.uk

Well, even if it is second time around, seems lile a good story to me. In spite of challenges and hardships, it seems that Kevin has continually got off his butt and helped both himself and others instead of expecting everyone else to pay.
We all know lots of "professionals" who earn shedloads, but add nowhere near as much value as this. Think I'm gonna get me a gee-tar.......or maybe I'll just keep banking the easy money ;-)
