Pair in court on Newport robbery charges

TWO people appeared in court following an alleged aggravated burglary in Newport.

Edward John Donovan, 50, of Windmill Square, Commercial Road, Newport, and Rhiannon Gibbons, 27, of Newport Hotel, Chepstow Road, Newport, are both charged with robbery, grievous bodily harm with intent to Dr Prana Das, pictured, and the assault of Dr Nishebita Das occasioning actual bodily harm at their home in Catsash on Sunday September 2.

Both defendants appeared at Newport Crown Court yesterday and will return to the court on November 23, when they will enter pleas to the charges.

The robbery charge states that cash, a BMW, a Nokia mobile phone, a quantity of cash in rupees and an ornamental eagle were all allegedly stolen during the incident.

Dr Prana Das was left needing hospital treatment following the alleged incident and was in a coma at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he was in a serious but stable condition.
