Paul Meredith, from Six Bells, has worked in the coal industry all his adult life, working at Big Pit since 1988, with a brief spell at Uskmouth Power Station in the middle.
If you have to be stuck in a life with someone, who would it be and why?
Rik Mayall, pictured, because he would make a joke out of the situation.
What is your biggest fear?
Having to work until I am 70.
Do you have any superstitions?
Yes, I still will not walk under a ladder.
If you could have only one song on your iPod, what would it be and why?
Move It by Cliff Richard and the Shadows, as a rock’n’roll music fan the words say it all.
What’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought, not including property?
BMW motorcycle. I love it.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Life is short – burn the candle at both ends and the middle.
What’s your indulgence?
Beer and chocolate.
What item could you not live without?
A pint glass.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?
I am far from perfect but I am happy as I am.
Where are you next going on holiday?
Croatia, with my wife Anita.
