PUPILS at a Newport school are dining in style thanks to the creation of a new cafe.

Staff and students at St Julian's School helped to design the new Aspire Cafe facility, which is kitted out with grab and go chiller cabinets, breakfast bars, sofa seating and a 42-inch plasma TV.

The area was previously a tired social area and boys' toilet block, which pupils didn't like using.

But thanks to a mixture of school funding and grants, the area has been transformed and students are using it breakfasts, break and lunch times.

Head teacher Denise Richards said she was delighted at the results and the reaction from students had been positive.

Business Manager Mark Rowland added: "Our students have had a big say in the design, colour schemes and layout of the cafeteria and we are extremely proud with the end product.

"We are certain that this facility will prove to be popular and serve them well during their journey through the school."
