HEAVY rain could cause flooding in parts of south Wales this week, the Environment Agency warned.

Forecasters predicted up to two inches of rain would fall today accompanied by strong winds, which could lead to flooding from drains and streams. River levels could also rise.

The stormy conditions are expected to spread to the rest of Wales next week with further local flooding possible on Monday and Tuesday.

Excess water on roads could cause disruption and extra care should be taken as driving conditions are likely to be hazardous.

The agency is also advising people not to walk through flood waters and to report any blockages in streams or rivers to them immediately on 0845 988 1188.
