A WOMAN whose bail conditions banned her from every shop in England and Wales has admitted breaching them.

Claire McCarthy, 31, of Clos Bury Capel, Abergavenny, appeared before Caerphilly Magistrates Court on Monday where she admitted the breach.

McCarthy, due to appear at Cwmbran Magistrates Court on October 18 for sentencing of a theft matter, had to comply with reports compiled by probation, to attend probation appointments and not to enter any shop in England or Wales. Then, on September 17, McCarthy was filmed on CCTV entering Tesco supermarket in Abergavenny.

Paul Philpott, mitigating, described it as an odd bail condition which could cause someone to “starve to death”, but that McCarthy’s mother had agreed to do her food shopping for her.

“She had gone into town with her sister and her sister had left her in charge of one of her children, who ran into the Tesco store, and she pursued her,” said Mr Philpott.

Magistrates rebailed McCarthy on the same conditions as previously, but to reside and sleep each night at her sister’s address.

She is due to appear at Cwmbran Magistrates Court on October 18.
