GWENT’S Olympic medallist Jamie Baulch visited a Cwmbran school this week as part of his aim to inspire children across Wales.

The former athlete visited Llantarnam School on Tuesday with the Jamie Baulch Academy which he set up 18 months ago.

The academy, which has the Welsh government on board, is currently visiting 60 schools in Wales with different athletes and aims to visit every school in Britain.

Mr Baulch said: “The whole purpose is to create that spark in every child we meet.

“It’s all about integration and having fun.”

Mr Baulch spoke to the pupils about his career and explained how his talent was spotted by his headteacher during a sports day.

Mr Baulch had his photograph taken with the children before they took part in a circuit of exercises.

He said: “It’s very special coming back to Cwmbran and coming home. I was one of those kids many moons ago.”

Dan Povey, head of PE at the school, said it was a privilege
to have Mr Baulch at the school to inspire the pupils.
