A SUBPOSTMASTER has been recognised for his 30 years of loyal service to the job.

Nigel Saunders received a long service award from the Post Office, presented by regional manager Neil Jenkins.

The Swffryd Post Office has been in the Saunders family for 50 years with Mr Saunders’ mother Margaret running the branch from 1962 until he took over in 1988.

Mr Saunders, 52, had worked for the Post Office long before becoming subpostmaster at Swffryd, having worked on the counter at branches across South Wales for six years.

Mr Saunders’ father also worked on the Post Office counter in Ebbw Vale.

He said: “It’s been quite a surprise, but a lovely one to receive this award.

“I am very pleased to be recognised for serving the local community.

“I am very lucky as many of my customers have become my friends over the years and this makes the award extra special for me.

“I love dealing with people, providing them with advice and trying to solve their problems.”

Mr Jenkins said: “It’s great to be able to recognise the hard work that our subpostmasters put in serving the community.”
