FAMILY Fun Walk took place at Newport Stadium yesterday to raise money for Wales’ children’s cancer charity, LATCH.

More than 60 people of all ages took part in the Lap for LATCH event including Newport County football stars David Pipe and Mike Flynn, former WBO featherweight champion Steve Robinson, Commonwealth gold medallist Sean McGoldrick, Nathan Cleverly’s trainer Darren Wilson, boxer Gary Buckland and trainer Bill Reynolds.

Organiser Mark Fredrickson of Ringland was inspired to raise money for charity after losing two grandparents to cancer.

He specifically started raising money for LATCH after meeting nine-year-old Lenamay Edwards, of Gaer Vale, who is undergoing chemotherapy for a brainstem glioma.

He said: “I’m really happy at how the day has gone and it’s nice for the sun to join us. I hope to raise £1,000 at the event, which I can spend on children at the cancer ward in Cardiff.”

Laura and Steven Edmunds from Ringland, took part in the walk with their two children aged two and five.

Mr Edmunds said: “It has brought all ages out today. It’s been a good morning and I hope that more events like this week be hosted to support such charities.”

As the day went on, more and more people arrived in time to see Pontypool singer Demi Holborn perform. There was also a variety of stalls and a bouncy castle.
