HYGIENE OFFENCES: Y-Fronts used as cleanng rags

First published in News

A MAN who supplied chicken from a filthy backstreet processing plant to takeaway restaurants and kebab shops in Newport will be sentenced next year.

Kamran Ajaib used Y-fronts as cleaning rags and had no hand basins or knife steriliser at his makeshift butchers in Bristol.

He supplied 20 tonnes of chicken a week to takeaway restaurants and kebab shops in Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and Swindon.

The premises he used had none of the necessary food hygiene approvals or licences to work with meat.

Bristol Crown Court heard that Ajaib, of Gordon Road, Whitehall, Bristol, could have made hundreds of thousands of pounds in profit from his enterprise.

Environmental health officers from Bristol City Council raided the site after a customer found a piece of wire in a takeaway chicken.

Ajaib pleaded guilty to eight charges of failing to comply with food hygiene regulations between June 2010 and May last year at a previous hearing.

Co-defendant Hamza Poultry Limited, of which Ajaib is the sole director, admitted the same eight charges.

The case was adjourned at Bristol Crown Court yesterday and Ajaib will be sentenced next year.
