Co-op store to close on Chepstow Road, Newport

A NEWPORT food store is to close next month as a result of poor trading figures.

The Co-Operative store on Chepstow Road, which employs five full-time and 23 part-time members of staff, will shut from November 28.

A spokesman for The Co-operative Food said: “We can confirm that the Co-operative Food store on Chepstow Road, Newport, is due to close on Wednesday, November 28.

“Staff at the store have been informed of the decision, which has been taken with the greatest regret. The closure is due to poor trading performance and is not in any way a reflection on the commitment and hard work of the store team.

“Every effort will be made to redeploy as many as possible of the members of staff with The Co-operative Group, or to help them find alternative employment.”

The store currently provides home delivery to people in the area.
