A TEAM of MPs and AMs has signed a letter asking MTV to show respect to the Valleys and a donate a portion of the profits from a reality TV show to charity.

Lynne Neagle and Paul Murphy, Torfaen AM and MP respectively, and Islwyn MP Chris Evans say that MTV’s The Valleys has patronised and crudely stereotyped the region and its people.

They have called for the company to make a donation of five per cent of the advertising profits from the show to the charity Valleys Kids, which works with disadvantaged children and families.

“This donation would make a huge difference to a fantastic charity that genuinely supports young people fromthe Valleys to make the most of their talents,” the letter reads.

The letter is organised by the Valleys are Here campaign, which has also submitted a petition signed by more than 2,200 people backing the call for a donation to charity.

The Gwent group are joined by Chris Bryant, MP for the Rhondda, Wayne David, MP for Caerphilly and Owen Smith, MP for Pontypridd and shadow secretary of state for Wales.
