Hi Everyone, We’ve been busy over the last month trying to reduce our carbon footprint – during National Bike Week (13-21 June) we challenged our staff and regulars to ditch their cars and jump on their bikes to get to the pub.
Although this was not possible for some members of staff who live a bit too far away, everyone still got involved and took part by riding the bike to the shop in the village instead of taking the car. We even had a few of the regulars join in and ride down because they were inspired by our enthusiasm!
We estimate that we saved around 50 ‘car miles’ just from staff biking or walking to work and the shop. The general feeling after the week was that everyone enjoyed it. With the promise of a good summer I think most of us will continue to get on our bikes and as well as helping the environment it will help get us into shape for the summer!
Kim’s top bike tip: Three quarters of all personal journeys are less than 5 miles long which would take around half an hour on a bike. During rush hour a bicycle is about twice as fast as a car, so the same journey could take you an hour!
