WE were reporting the results of a survey this week that claims women make three times as many cuppas in the workplace than men.

This may not be the case in every workplace of course but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s more than a grain of truth in it.

It most definitely isn’t the case on the ground floor at Wales’ national commercial radio station where programming and news people work together in a spirit of love and togetherness.

Those of us who enjoy a brew or several each day tend to split the duties equally with a notable exception who I will name and shame. Real Radio’s news editor is Sam Fleet and I’m pretty sure he was shown where the kitchen is sometime ago but seems to have lost his bearings over the years.

According to the research sixty two per cent of men regularly invent ways to avoid making tea, they include impending deadlines, spurious meetings, false phone calls and even, and this is a good one, sporting injuries which prevent them carrying several cups at once.

You’d need to have a severe aversion to making a hot drink in order to claim that you’d gone in the fetlock to get out of it.

Other brew-related tensions revealed by my listeners were the ones caused by the work colleague who sneaks away to make just one for themselves, those characters who find a way of never contributing to the tea fund and of course the workmates who spend the tea money on cheap and nasty coffee and tea.

In short, it’s a hot drink based minefield, and if you add biscuits into the equation….don’t even go there.
