Do you twitter?

Up until the festive break I had never heard of “Twitter”, I realise that being in the media like what I am I probably should have but this particular piece of Internet wonderment has passed me by.

I read a newspaper piece about some famous people and their tweeting activities.

Let’s establish the terms here, those who do it are “tweeters” and the act of doing it is called “tweeting”. Easy to follow so far.

It’s a bit like Facebook only more pointless as it involves telling other tweeters what you are doing when the urge takes you, which for some people is very often.

We’re not talking about major activities such as writing great works or finding a cure for something nasty but ordinary everyday things like making the tea or picking fleas out off the cat, not a nice job but someone has to do it.

But there’s no need to tell everyone else.

If you go to the official Tweeter website it contains quotes from some notable tweeters including Jeff Barr who is a Senior Manager at Amazon who reveals that “I really like Twitter”. As earth shattering quotes go it’s on a par with “I quite like Spam”.

Some correspondents to the radio show tell me that tweeters take it very seriously and keep other tweeters up to date on their daily activities.

One can only imagine the excitement when you open the latest message to reveal “didn’t expect it to be that colour, I just hope it stays on”.

Tell us the secret Chris, how DO you get your blogs in ! I've seen twitter, the users are called "Tw*ts" for obvious reasons. I gather not only can you tune in any time to hear such earth shattering revelations like "I'm catching a bus now...", and "I've got a hole in my sock today...", but theyuse globalpositioning stattelites to show exactly where you utter this ground-breaking eye-opener. Quite useful they say for tracking the errant wife or Hubby, carrying on with other people.... :) Next time he twitter "Hi Babe, I'm running late in ameeting..", and the misses works out the stattelite system actually puts you firmly in some lap-dancing club, you are for it...
