FOOTBALL has truly gone mad when fans are calling for a manager’s head after two games of the season.

Yet that is exactly what is happening at Newport County as some supporters demand Warren Feeney’s sacking after 3-2 home defeats against Mansfield Town in League Two and MK Dons in the EFL Cup.

Those arguing for the axe will point to a run of 13 matches without a win, stretching back to last season.

Statistically, they are correct, and their views are heartfelt are based on passion for their team.

But you don’t win or lose points for what happened last season. However, momentum is important and at the moment County have none.

Feeney asked to be judged when he had his own team on the pitch rather than the one he inherited.

In my view as a season ticket holder, he deserves the opportunity to show he has recruited well.

His new team cannot be judged fairly after just two games.

I couldn’t make the cup match on Tuesday night, but I was at the Mansfield game and County played good football at times.

But they have a soft underbelly and concede too many goals and that has to be addressed.

Ten games from the start of the season is a reasonable marker for this team.

Ten poor results in that period won’t get a team relegated, but they might get a manager the sack.
