THE Scottish independence referendum last month settled the question of Scottish independence, but the consequences and action that follow can have far-reaching effects.

In many parts of the UK there is a strong feeling of dissatisfaction with the unfairness and inequality, and that certainly was raised in Scotland. There is a clear need to rebalance the UK economy to make sure that wealth and prosperity is truly shared.

The UK government has to do much more to bring about this rebalancing, and help boost the economies in Wales as well as Scotland, northern England and other areas of economic need. They can help by moving UK government jobs into these regions, providing strong support for inward investment and developing homegrown firms, and helping fund infrastructure projects like the South Wales Metro.

It should also look at providing greater levers for devolved governments, with the Welsh Government being able to use taxation and borrowing powers to boost our economy.

The UK has a grossly unfair distribution of wealth, and after years of austerity that has hit the worst off hard, this has to be addressed.

I am pleased the Scottish people voted to stay in the UK, but we must now make the UK a fairer and more equal place, and use the opportunities devolution has given to help deliver the jobs, investment and growth that is needed.

The Welsh NHS has been in the national news a lot recently, and it is clear that the UK government and parts of the media which support it are intent on attacking the NHS in Wales to distract from the problems of the NHS in England. There are challenges in the Welsh NHS, and Welsh Government is facing them head on.

But the Coalition government is responsible for the NHS in England, and they should concentrate on that.

Finally, with Halloween and Bonfire Night approaching, I hope that people will make sure they celebrate safely, and with respect to others.

There is no excuse for anti-social behaviour, and there are many organised bonfire and firework displays that people can enjoy safely. The police, fire service and Councils have been working with partners to raise awareness about safety and crime prevention, and I hope people enjoy these nights without incident.
