If you had to be stuck in a lift with someone, who would it be and why?

I think John McClane (Die Hard) would be a good person to be stuck with – he’d be the man to get us both out quickly. If it had to be a real person, though, I’d choose my son – he’s interesting and funny and stays calm in a crisis.

What is your biggest fear?

I have a few really big, morbid fears that I won’t share but I am scared of crane flies (daddy long legs), which is embarrassing for someone who works for a Wildlife Trust.

Do you have any superstitions?

I always pick up pennies if I see them – they bring you luck.

If you could have one song on your iPod, what would it be and why?

I struggled to narrow this down but did get to two: Goody Two Shoes, by Adam Ant, and Rossini’s Thieving Magpie. If I had to choose one, though, I would go with Goody Two Shoes.

What’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought, not including property?

Probably my tent – a really nice light one for backpacking.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

It’s something I read rather than advice from a person and sounds a little morbid at first: Live your life as if you knew you could lose it at any time. It makes me appreciate what I have and the people I love and encourages me to actually do the things I want to do.

What’s your indulgence?

Staying in bed with a cup of tea and reading a good book.

What item could you not live without?

There’s nothing that I couldn’t literally live without but I do rely on my mobile phone a lot. It’s reassuring to know that I can contact someone if I need help or that my family can contact me if they need me.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be and why?

I would have more confidence in myself

Where are you next going on holiday?

I’m going to Brittany in July for a couple of weeks – backpacking with my ultralight tent. I didn’t travel much when I was younger so I’m making up for it now. Can’t wait.
