For a Government that has taken money from very vulnerable group possible and cut our services to the bone, this may have been the most galling budget yet.

The fact that this calamitous budget has fallen apart under close scrutiny will be of little comfort to those it has affected.

Failing to achieve the targets he had set out, Osborne has resorted to the typical Tory standby of helping those at the top.

I have received lots of letters and lots of casework from people afraid of what this budget could mean.

From disabled constituents relying on personal independence payments to the bottom 10% facing 25 times more losses than those in the top 10%.

The embarrassing u-turns that have followed may have provided some relief, but they expose a Government who are itching to push forward with an economy that only benefits the rich.

Meanwhile back home its fantastic news to hear that TVR will be setting up shop in Ebbw Vale.

150 quality jobs in Blaenau Gwent is a real boost and as I’ve said, I hope it will be the first of many such announcements in the future.

I was also heartened to hear the words of TVR’s chairman talking about why they chose the area as their new base of operations.

I’ve argued for a long time that Blaenau Gwent has always had a good workforce ready and eager to learn what’s needed, and it is good to see it as a real selling point.

It’s also good to see all the improvements to the borough, whether it be the schools, railway line or Heads of the Valleys road, adding up to make it attractive to employers.

I’m glad the Labour Welsh Government have invested in the area with a long-term goal and we are beginning to see the fruits of that labour.

Of course, none of these developments may have been possible without EU funding – and a factory like this is going to make me campaign all the harder to stay in.

I don’t believe that if we were to leave the EU that the funding we recovered would be spent on Blaenau Gwent.

That’s not even counting the jobs it creates or the business it generates for companies in Wales. There is too big a vacuum that would have to be filled if we were to leave. I don’t want Blaenau Gwent to be left behind in a rush to exit the EU.
