NEWPORT County supporters will be able to show their appreciation to the team on Wednesday when there will be an open top bus tour through the city celebrating the side’s promotion to the football league.

Leaving County’s home ground, Rodney Parade, at 6pm the bus will travel along Corporation Road, Clarence Place and up to the Civic Centre for a drinks reception at 6.30pm for players and coaching staff. The bus will depart the Civic Centre at 7pm and return to Rodney Parade where Newport’s Mayor, Councillor John Guy, will present the club with a framed scroll congratulating them on their achievement. This will be done on the balcony so supporters can see the presentation.

The event is a chance for supporters, residents and visitors to celebrate Newport County’s promotion and show their appreciation to the team.

A spokesperson for Newport City Council, said: “The council would like to congratulate Newport County on their achievement and promotion. It is great news for the city which prides itself on being an ambitious sporting city – just this week two members of the Newport Gwent Dragons were named in the British and Irish Lions squad, the national football development centre, Dragon Park, was opened just a couple of weeks ago and we have the velodrome which Team GB cyclists used to train at before the London 2012 Games.

“The council would like to wish the team continued success as they represent Newport in the football league.”
