A YORK rapper’s music video will be adopted as York City’s official FA Trophy anthem ahead of the match against Newport County at Wembley.
Rapper Chuitar has recorded York City State of Mind, which is a parody of the number one hit by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys called Empire State of Mind, in his bedroom.
Chuitar is following in the footsteps of Newport actors T e r e m a Wa i n w r i g h t , Alex Warren and director MJ Delany whose spoof YouTube video Newport Ymerodraeth State of Mind, had more than a million hits last summer.
The video features, for the first time, footage from various City games at Bootham Crescent and Wembley along with matches at Luton and Alfreton, all filmed on an iPhone.
The 36-year-old, alias Kit Simon, whose father lives in York, has been a City fan since 1987.
City spokeswoman Sophie Hicks said it would be adopted as the club’s official FA Trophy anthem.
She said: “Everyone at the club from players to our manager Gary Mills thinks it is great. Since I heard it for the first time this morning, I can’t get it out of my head, it’s so catchy.”
“We are aiming to send a copy of the song to Wembley for it to be played on May 12.”
The Chorus
Cheering for York!
Go and win the Trophy at Wembley,
make our knees go trembly
In red and blue York,
We’ll make our way to the stands to,
sing songs to inspire you.
We can beat Newport, Newport, Newport!
