NEWPORT County Supporters’ Club have made the dreams of one fan come true and he is now on the road to Wembley.

Lifelong County fan and double amputee Ken Fletcher will be chauffered by private taxi to Saturday’s game against York City at a cost of £300.

This was after supporters’ club chairman Bob Herrin met him while he was queueing for tickets last month.

A family member informed him that Mr Fletcher would require special transport as he has to remain in his wheelchair at all times, so he cannot travel on any of the 17 supporters’ coaches.

The usual practice is for disabled supporters to sit at the front with their wheelchair packed into the luggage hold.

Mr Fletcher, who has supported County since the age of five, offered to travel to the FA Trophy final in his special mobility car, but Mr Herrin felt they should help the supporter on his way.

So Mr Herrin contacted Dragon Taxis, who said they could provide a vehicle for the day, costing £300.

The Supporters’ Club, whose 300-plus members pay an annual fee, will foot the bill.

Mr Fletcher is delighted he will share his team’s biggest 90 minutes with eldest son Christopher, 38, and his 12- year-old grandsons Finley and Mckenzie.

Mr Fletcher’s wife, Pam, said it was “marvellous”.

“Ken was worried he wouldn’t be able to go but it’s marvellous the club has been able to help. He can’t wait,”

she said.

Mr Fletcher does not normally attend away games due to having dialysis for chronic renal disease.

He had both legs amputated last year following complications with diabetes, a condition he has had for more than 20 years.

Like all County fans, he and Mr Herrin are counting down the days until Saturday’s action.

“I can’t really believe we are going to Wembley and it will be nice for Ken to come along too,” Mr Herrin added.

Last ticket chance

TODAY is your last chance to get your hands on a ticket to see the Exiles make their debut at Wembley this weekend.

Fans have until 7pm today to buy one of around 4,000 of the 15,015 tickets still available. They can only be bought at the club and all those left after today will be sent back to Wembley.

It is not yet known whether they will go back on sale on the day, so the club is urging fans to get them now to avoid disappointment.

Tickets are £30 for adults and £15 for under-16s and over-65s.
