PEOPLE in Risca were among the first to get into the swing of the Jubilee with a party in the town on Saturday.

Jubilee in the Park, organised by the Risca West and East Community Council Action Group, brought around 3,000 people to the town's Tredegar Park over the course of the afternoon.

Families had plenty to choose from to keep them entertained; from funfair rides and face painting to live music, stilt walkers, jugglers and food and charity stalls.

An exhibition of drawings of the Queen created by local school children was also on show.

After a ominous start to the day, the sun even made an appearance in the early afternoon and the park was suitably decked out in bunting and the red, blue and white of the Union Jack was present on pretty much every stand and stall.

Terri Wiltshire, 30, from Ty Isaf, who was there with partner John and their children Bronwyn, two, and Charlie, four, said: "It's nice that the community are doing something to celebrate the Jubilee, we're having a nice time."

Jay Santana, 23, was at the park with her daughters Kayde, four, and Ella, seven months, and husband Stanley, 25.

She added: "Today's been fabulous, it's nice to have something in Risca going on, we've all been having a nice time."

Dave Rees, chairman of the action group, said: "It was all about the community and bringing families together. It was great to see a lot of people have support for the monarch."

Mr Rees said thousands of pounds had also been raised during the day which will be donated to various charities.
