Brynmawr pastor Stuart Wheatman, who recently reprised the role of Jesus in an open-air Passion Play on Good Friday. He shared some of his favourite pictures with NATHAN BRIANT.

1. In my spare time I'm trying to develop some skills in computer programming. I used to have a Sinclair Spectrum in my youth, and wrote a number of programs in the BASIC language. Presently I'm learning Java and Android and have written a Pacman clone in Java. I love creativity and hope soon to be able to write some new apps for mobiles and tablets.

2. I'm really blessed to be married to Sarah and have three beautiful children. Here is a picture on our wedding day taken in the grounds of the Castle in Abergavenny, May 11, 1996. It was the FA Cup final on the day of our marriage and Manchester United won. We just happened to be flying out to our honeymoon from Manchester so that made for an interesting journey on the train, still dressed in our wedding gear!

3. Being part of the Church is a great adventure and it can open up incredible new opportunities to reach people and experience new cultures. At a conference we met a man named Ade Beckley from Freetown, Sierra Leone, who became our very dear friend. It wasn't long after that conference that Sierra Leone was plunged into civil war and we were able as a Church to send out some aid in their difficult situation. Since the war we have been able to visit Freetown on a couple of occasions (2003 and 2006) supporting the great work Ade is doing in the country. The picture below is taken in May 2003

4. (and 5) Part of my work in the church involves leading a youth club on a Monday evening called The Hub. They are a great bunch on young people and have a whole lot of fun with the various activities. Every once in a while we will have a 'World's Greatest Ice Cream' evening where we lay out a crazy amount of ice cream in a length of (clean) plastic guttering and then just dig in! This is usually worked off on a trip to an activity centre such as the one pictured in Longtown, where we can all tackle our fear of heights.

6. Here is a picture from the Easter Passion Play 2014. I believe it's really important for us to tell the story of what Jesus went through at this time of year, rather than keep it to ourselves. As Christians we believe that through the cross anyone who believes can find true forgiveness from God, the strength to change and the sure hope of eternal life - that is great news!

7. As well as the yearly open air Easter Passion Play we have done a number of other events in Brynmawr town. Here we are in 2010 at one of the Brynmawr Fetes in the Welfare Park playing some of our modern Christian songs live on the BrFM local radio station. Many have the impression that church is just for older people and that the music is all old fashioned hymns, but although we occasionally sing some of the old hymns, we sing mainly modern Christian songs in our worship and use modern instruments. Music is a real passion of mine and we are blessed to have a good number of excellent musicians in the church.
