SUMMER: As we now approach the winter sports season end, I find it right to congratulate the club for completing their seasons, however they finished. Bettws RFC have had mixed results in previous seasons, but they are resilient and strong growth in mind, making them eager to carry on, a rested summer, and ready to go 2017/18 - best of luck.

The same goes for Civil Service FC, who also struggle to win games, but I’m told past players could return, so let’s hope they continue next season, and win the league.

If Bettws Social still play league games, best of luck for next season. Indoors they are doing pretty good at pool, with one team Hammer ‘n’ Tong at the top, so keep going, best of luck to the three teams.

All in all Bettws has always been an estate enjoying sport, so for any youngsters, or even explorers wanting to play, contact Civil Service FC, Bettws Social, or Bettws RFC for next season.

LANE: I wrote previously of the work contracted on Bettws Lane, with humps levelled for a while for roadworks completion. The work consisted of the left sided pavement being widened, to allow for a cycle path, saving them doing roadway. The problem was not solved, for the road is now narrowed drastically, and accounting for traffic between 8am-10am and 3pm-4pm.

For residents this is catastrophic! Councillor Kevin Whitehead, his protesters, and John Harrold were all correct that the estate is becoming longer with housing, making it a future of deadlock! I have travelled the lane, and can honestly say I have not seen any cyclists using the side lane for them, they use the road.

I asked one young cyclist what he thought, he replied, “In school I took a cycle test for safety and see and be seen, and we had to use roads, so why should I change now for one pavement, it’s wrong.”

When you think of it, he was right, therefore back to the lane in context. Why on earth did the authorities concerned arrange such a useless use of money, when the lane must be widened not narrowed, so they should now take notice of the protesters and John Harrold, and do the correct thing once and for all and put the lane back to original stand and, or as John said to build another road exit to the M4.
