NEWS: St Patrick’s church witnessed another top notch musical extravaganza when the City of Newport Male Choir celebrated St Davids Day with a joint concert with the delightful Serenata Ladies Choir at the start of March.

The concert was organised on behalf of Alzheimer’s Research who benefitted by more than £600 from the event.

Both choirs not just sharing a love of music they also share their musical director Fiona Bryant and accompanist Barbara Davies.

Deputy musical Director Martin Jones also gave an excellent account of himself when he took charge of the choir for a session and accompanying them on the wonderful St Patricks church organ. Adam Bryant also did an excellent job with his drum. There is something about joint concerts between these two excellent choirs.

Highlights from the City Choir included a stunning version of “Myfanwy”, a lively Tom Jones Medley and a rousing “Men of Harlech”. Not to be outdone, Serenata sent tingles down the spine of the audience with their versions of “ Shake it out”, “And so it goes”, a “Broadway Medley”, an incredible Carol King medley and a version of “Calon Lan.” The real chemistry happened when both choirs sang in union with medley of World War 1 songs before producing a version of American Trilogy.

As usual the concert ended with the choirs and audience producing a version of the Welsh National Anthem.
