NEW READER: Hello and welcome to my newest reader. A lovely lady I met on her doorstep in the Thompson Avenue area, hopefully boosting my known readership to three. She promised to start getting Mondays Argus to read my column. I promised  to mention her in it if she did. As you can see I kept my part of the bargain. Hope both my other readers don’t feel crowded

UNBELIEVABLE: Following last weeks article about fly tipping I was livid to see two large brown leather armchairs just dumped on the roadside near the entrance to Moorland Park. I refuse to believe that anything like this can be dumped in such a prominent place without anyone seeing it happen.

The actual chairs are quite a unique design. If anyone recognises them or if someone accidentally lost them off the back of a van and don’t know where they are (yea right!) please get in touch.

Shifting this act of vandalism is going to use money that is need elsewhere. Don’t let them get away with it. Together we can make sure the people who dumped it get the bill.

EVEN MORE UNBELIEVABLE: I thought it was a bit quiet, then I get a call from the first battalion of fanatical fundraisers at Lliswerry Parish St Andrews Church. They have spent weeks dreaming up a new scam to part you from your money.

After many meetings, focus groups and discussion forums they have come up with a profound and radical idea. They are going to have another jumble sale. Well, like they say, if it ‘aint broke don’t fix it.

So, head along to St Andrews Church Hall on Tuesday April 4 from 10am to 1pm or until the tea and cakes run out or you have spent all your money. All the usual fun and mayhem. See you there.

Happy to ask any questions or hear any problems you may have as I am held hostage at the tea and cake area.

NEWS FROM THE CHAMPIONS: Newport cycle speedway club have been awarded a grant of £3,265 from the Welsh church fund towards the construction of a new roof for their pits making their magnificent facilities even better and worthy of their British Champions status.

In essence their track will be one of the best to be found anywhere in the country with few better to be found anywhere on the planet.
As a sport Cycle Speedway is one of the UK’s best kept secrets. It has to be seen to be believed. The athletic ability and courage of the riders is every bit as exciting as the motorised sport. Add to that the fact that Newport has some of the best riders in the country I am amazed at how few people are aware they even exist.
Not only do they most definitely exist they are based at the Newport International Sports Village. In the very heart of Lliswerry. Their track is right next to the entrance to the Veladrome. What I admire most about them is they are my type of people. They are always looking for new members and love to encourage local youngsters to get involved.
It is another chance to get kids off the street corners and involved in sport. Why not take your youngsters along to give it a try (they even supply the bikes). Sessions are every Tuesday and Thursday from 6.15pm till 7.30pm. Cost is £2. Further details call Colin on 07462232852.

If there is anyone out there in Lliswerry and Nash who would like to get their youngsters involved but genuinely can’t afford the £2 fee please get in touch with me.

GOOD NEIGHBOURS: There is one issue that keeps cropping up on the doorsteps time and time again, in all parts of our area. No, not dog mess or poor pavements annoying as they are. It is the number of cars being parked on pavements and grass verges.

If you do it you are sending your neighbours demented even though they may be too polite to raise it with you direct. Damaged grass verges are real eyesores and mud baths. Parking on pavements is illegal and extremely dangerous, particularly when pedestrians are forced to walk around them and into the road. As a ward councillor it is an issue that can’t be ignored. If you end up with a ticket it is your own fault.

I would rather deal with a call from someone irate about a parking fine than talking to the relative of someone injured because they had to walk on the road because of an inconsiderably parked car.

Don’t shoot the messenger, you have been warned.
