LITTER PICK: Graig Best Kept Villages Group have organised litter pick’s in Bassaleg and Rhiwderin next weekend.

On Saturday April  29 the litter pick will be in Bassaleg, meeting at the end of Forge Lane, Court Crescent at 10.30am and on Sunday April 30 the litter pick will be at Rhiwderin meeting at Rhiwderin Community Centre at 10am.

Volunteers will be provided with all the necessary equipment, including litter pickers and protective gloves.

RHIWDERIN VILLAGE HALL CRAFT FAIR: On Saturday April 29 the bi-monthly Craft Fair at Rhiwderin Village Hall, will be taking place between 10am and 2pm. There is free admission and refreshments available.

RHIWDERIN WI: Tomorrow, April 25, at the Rhiwderin Village Hall, Rhiwderin W.I will be meeting at 7.30pm. Hilary Lester who is registered blind and uses a guide dog will be taking about the work of the guide dogs. 

The cost of a guide dog is at least £50,000 for the lifetime of each guide dog. 

The guide dog service receives no government funding and relies on the public to fund each dog.

WHITEHEADS BIG BAND SOCIETY: On Wednesday April 26 at 8pm the South Wales Big Band Society Whiteheads will be entertained by Alan Barnes and the Blackhawk big band. The venue, Whiteheads Sports and Social Club, Bassaleg. 

GRAIG RURAL MARKET: Cotyledon Markets will be holding their monthly market at the Rhiwderin Community Centre on Saturday April  29 from 10am to 2pm. 

Local foods and handmade craft items as well as Welsh cheese, free range eggs and fresh bread.

PARTY FOR RON JONES: Graig Community Council has organised a birthday event to celebrate Mr Jones’s one hundredth birthday. The event next Saturday is between 5pm and 7pm at the Graig Community Hall. 

Mr Jones is known as a loyal poppy seller being the oldest poppy seller in the country and has published a book the Auschwitz Goal Keeper recounting the time he was a prisoner at the prisoner of war camp next door to Auschwitz. 

There is an invitation if you knew Ron to come alone and wish him a happy birthday.
