INITIATIVE: Ty Sign Primary School, Risca, is the latest school to sign up and launch it’s Daily Mile, an initiative that involves pupils jogging or running for 15 minutes every day in school.

The scheme at Ty Sign Primary School, launched on May 8 with the school’s Sports Council arranging a big launch with music, balloons and over 400 children taking to the school yard to walk 18 laps to complete the first mile of the scheme and it was a great afternoon of fun with the pupils and staff.

Alison Dacey, Headteacher, said: “The children had great fun and at first they were all walking a mile but by lap 10 they were running and can’t wait until the next Daily Mile.”

Mrs Dacey added that both the children and the staff took part in the Daily Mile, and now it will be part of a daily routine to promote wellbeing.

The Sports Ambassadors Joshua and Tarran said “We’re looking forward to seeing the pupils’ fitness, concentration and enjoyment of sport improve in our school.”
