SHOW: Pontnewydd Ladies Choir mounted a very pleasant evening at Mount Pleasant Hall, Pontnewydd, on the evening of Thursday April 27.

As always these incredibly talented ladies were well supported by their guest artistes, poet Sue King and soloist Ben Powell, both local and loved entertainers.

The hall was set out in night club fashion as this was the choir’s Spring Supper Concert and it was a feast in both musical and meal terms. The Ladies Choir concluded the first half of the concert with a selection of numbers, with the proud comment from their Musical Director that they could sing in quite a few languages, including Hebrew, Latin and Welsh!

This was illustrated with a brilliantly blended mix of I Believe and Ave Maria.

We then had a tasty home made buffet and replete with luscious food and raffle winnings.

The second half of the concert opened with the choir singing a number of much loved songs, including “Fields of Gold.” Before their final set there were thanks given to all who had made the evening such a success, including the male assistants Steve, Graham, Ben, Trevor and Chris who helped Back of House and the Catering Team led by Jan.

The choir then sang their final numbers: When I’m 64, Medley from Aladdin and, as always, their signature sign-off to end each concert: Rutter’s lovely and appropriate The Lord Bless You and Keep You.

As Honorary President of Pontnewydd Ladies Choir I will end this report by thanking all the choir and their musical team for a magnificent musical treat.

We are all looking forward to the choir’s concert with the Three Welsh Tenors held at the Cwmbran Salvation Army Citadel, in mid-October.

Further details to follow. Hope to see you there!
