CLUB: Newport Speakers Club are delighted that their own Stephen Dance came second in both the National Speech and Topics Competitions representing the South West England and South Wales District in the Association of Speakers National Competition held recently at the Gatwick Hilton, and against eight other districts.
Stephen is the current champion moving up the award winning process of engaging and speaking in public. The speech he did so well in was entitled “The Gift of the Garb”, a dynamic imagining of how a speaker can be thought of, and giving the speech different hues for the audience’s imagination.
The second trial is preparing a topic, given on the night. Each contestant is given eight mins to put a speech together about the topic given, and present it to the audience, using memory and notes with full gusto and verve. Stephen loves this.
He says “I have been doing public speaking for just over seven years now and started entering competitions about six years ago.”
We meet at Langstone Methodist Church twice monthly on a Wednesday evening from 7.30pm to 9.15pm.
