SERVICE: Members from The Royal Welsh Comrades Association City of Newport branch along with the branch President Colonel Brian John CBE and his wife Mhairi as well as the branch Standard-Bearer, joined the City’s Mayor and Mayoress and a number of members from various associations for a poignant service to commemorate the the Monmouthshire regiment’s heroic part in the Battle of Frezenberg Ridge during the Second Battle of Ypres on May 8, 1915, at the Blaina Wharf Memorial on Sunday May 8  2017.

The service was delivered by The Royal Welsh Newport Branch Chaplain The Revered Keith Beardmore with wreaths being placed at the memorial by the Mayor, Colonel T Van-Rees, branch member Lyndon Lewis standing in for Brian John.

A second service to commemorate the Monmouthshire regiment was held at the memorial at the lower part of Stow Hill which was again delivered by the Revered Keith Beardmore with wreaths once again being placed at the memorial by the Mayor, Colonel Brian John CBE, and Colonel T Van-Rees. Following the service the parties made their way for refreshments.

To commemorate the D/Day Landings of June 6, 1944, the branch will be hosting a Parade and Service on June 6. The parade will form at 12.30pm at the top end of Cambrian Road and will march of at 12.45pm down Cambrian Road through to High Street halting at the D-Day Landings Memorial Stone for a service of Remembrance.

Following this refreshments will be held at the Baneswell Club.

Transport will be available from the old rail station to the Baneswell club for those in need.
