BLAENAVON OVER 50’S FORUM: Angela Lewis reports as follows: The May meeting of Blaenavon Over 50’s Forum was held at Blaenavon Workmen’s Hall. Chairman Mrs. Phyllis Roberts welcomed everyone, apologies for absence were given and the previous months minutes read and passed as a true record. Alyson Ayland of Age Connect asked for two volunteers to attend as delegates for various meetings in Gwent and Anita Styles and Sheila Brown offered to be delegates and this was accepted. Vice Chair/Secretary Angela Lewis gave details of the next trip to Weston on May 30 and gave out details of a trip to Sidmouth in July. All members had thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Wells in April. Treasurer Avril Bartlett gave a financial report and explained that as the Lottery money was nearly spent for this year a new application would be made in August.  The speaker was “The Goat Lady”, namely Nick and Sally Prewitt from Abersychan, who gave a power point presentation on their rearing of Anglo- Nubian goats and of the many products they obtain from them namely their production of Goats soap which is very effective for people suffering from skin conditions such as excema due to its high Vitamin A content. The also produce milk and cheese from the goats and they deliver in the area regularly. As an added extra they brought along a three week old kid goat who the members were delighted to meet. Nick and Sally were thanked by the Chair for a very interesting afternoon. Refreshments were served, thanks were given to Shirley and Christine of  The Workmen’s Hall for all their help.The raffle was won by Gerald Harper and the meeting closed. Next meeting Tuesday June 6 at 2pm, new members are welcome.

VALLEYS FOLK DANCE: A Valley’s Folk Dance Night is being held on Friday May 26 at Blaenavon Rugby Club, Middle Coed Cae from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. The dances will be called by Rod and all are welcome to join inn the fun, no experience is needed! Admission in just £3, all sorts of traditional dancing.

BLAENAVON SENIORS: The next meeting of Blaenavon Seniors takes place on Thursday May 25 at 7pm at the Senior’s Hall, Park Street. “Les Jaboliques” will be making a return visit to entertain and a full house is expected as the entertainers were so enjoyed at their last visit. New members will as usual be made most welcome. Admission £3 at the door, for more details call secretary on 01495 790719.

BLAENAVON TOWN COUNCIL: The first full meeting of the new Blaenavon Town Council will be held on Wednesday May 24 at 6.30pm at the Council Chambers, 101 High Street. The meeting will be chaired by the new Mayor of Blaenavon, Councillor Phyllis Roberts B.E.M. Any interested resident can attend council meetings as observers, more information can be obtained from The Town Clerk on 01495 790643.
