GET INVOVLED: Come and join Côr y Dreigiau, a mixed choir formed in 2006 as part of an S4C television programme called Codi Canu.

Supporters from our four Welsh rugby regions came together to form choirs, to bring singing back to the terraces. It was a great success, with over 80 people joining our choir.

S4C filmed our progress, during this exciting time and we were lucky to receive excellent tuition from choir masters Cefin and Rhian Roberts and Tim Rhys-Evans.

Our choir competed against the other regions, to sing the national anthem with Kathryn Jenkins at the Wales vs England match at the Millennium Stadium. We won the competition and we were so proud to sing in front of a capacity crowd of over 70,000 people.

We have been together for over 10 years and, singing in both Welsh and English, our repertoire ranges from traditional rugby songs to favourites from Abba, Elton John and the Beatles. We perform at weddings, charity concerts and of course at matches at Rodney Parade.

We have just returned from a successful annual tour, which this year was to Weston Super Mare where we had fun performing in the bandstand in Grove Park, and on the Grand Pier.

We are a happy group of people and we all get a lot out of singing and meeting new friends. Our choir master Helen Robbins provides us with excellent tuition and leadership and she is ably supported by our accompanist Colin Beynon.

We are looking to enhance our base or alto sections and would welcome new members. While a few of our number are either fluent in, or learning Welsh, a greater number have no Welsh language background at all, so we learn all new songs phonetically, and there is always an existing member on hand to help with the pronunciation of our existing Welsh repertoire. We would love to hear from you.

To see us perform come along to our Summer Concert in aid of Cruse Bereavement Care,  on June 10 at the Holy Trinity Parish Church, Christchurch, Newport. Tickets are £5 from Deb Clarke on 078961219219, the Cruse Gwent office 01633 251982, or on the door.
