WELL DONE: Eight members of local cycling club, VC Newport, successfully completed Ride London 100 in July raising over £4,000 for charity.

Ian Humphries headed up Team Ratty who cycled in aid of St David’s Hospice Care. With his team members Richard Dare, Andrew Jeffs and Rob Shipley for support, together they raised £2300.

After applying the first year through the ballot and failing to get a place, St David’s Hospice Care offered Ian a gold bond place. This was his third year participating. Ian is also heavily involved with organising the Dalmatian ride which is run annually and supports the hospice.

You may have seen Team Ratty when they were doing one of their spin sessions at Tesco Spytty to support the team’s fundraising, at these sessions they were joined by other members of VC Newport, including Charlie Grantham, John Maloney and daughter Emma.

Charlie participated in the ride raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, alone he raised £730. John and Emma completed the ride for Teenage Cancer Trust, not only was this this Emma’s first century bike ride, but they also raised £1000 along the way.

As active members of Velo Club Newport they all received fantastic support, many members got involved with their training rides and fundraising. We would like to thank everyone who helped and donated and it’s still not too late to donate at justgiving.com/teamratty.

A huge congratulations to all participants. VC Newport are currently a 60-strong group of road cyclists, ranging in ability, but all with a collective focus on improving performance without losing the social ‘coffee and cake’ atmosphere.
