SEASON: The Black Rock lave net season is in its final weeks with just one set of tides remaining.

The season to date has been disappointing on the fishing front with constant poor weather on fishing tides.

The catch therefore has been very average with only five salmon taken, considering the number of fish sighted during the year very disappointing.

The fishery has remained very popular with the public and media alike and has feature twice on national TV this year and in many articles.

The fishermen hope to renew their present agreement with NRW which is in its 10th and final season.

This agreement facilitated by the Welsh assembly government limited the fishermen to a total of 15 salmon per season and has been a success for all concerned. This is on-going.

Two firsts for the fishery this season were a landing on Denny Island west of our fishing grounds and bravely sampling the local oysters which have thrived since the closure of local heavy industry.

The fishery open day will be held this year on Saturday August 26 from 1pm to 5pm and will feature an exhibition, demonstration and film of lave netting also lave net training for children.

Presentation of the seasons trophy’s will also take place. Refreshments are available and all are welcome. Go to blackrocklavenets.co.uk and Facebook for information.
